My littles seem to think these Pillow Pet thing-a-ma-jigs are the bomb. I just ordered one from HERE for $11.98 shipped. Daily Steals has 6 choices for 6.99 each plus 4.99 shipping. You are allowed to order 10 total. These are the extra large and the lowest I've seen them is around $25.

The day you'll never forget ....9/11.
A few years ago I was drawing a complete blank on my bff's wedding anniversary. I knew it was in early September but I just couldn't remember. So I asked....she replied a bit sadly "oh it's the day you'll never forget....no one will forget 9/11." They married 2 years before the attacks cast that horrible shadow on September 11.
It's hard to believe it's been 9 years. I remember so much of it so vividly. It was my day off and I was home with my adorable 2 year old daughter doing Mommy stuff. My husband called and said he was taking his secretary home, a plane had hit the World Trade Center and her daughter-in-law worked there at the time. She didn't know which tower but she was a mess and Alan didn't want her to drive. While I was on the phone with him the second plane hit and then we knew. We knew it wasn't a horrible accident or tragic mistake; it was pure evil.
Then a horrible thought occured to me. I dialed Louisiana and said without greeting to my mother "Where is my father?".
"He's in New Jersey."
"On the GROUND?"
"Well, until tonight when he flies out of La Guardia for Pittsburgh."
"I'm sure that won't be happening, Mom."
Dad was safely on the ground--and remained on the ground in New Jersey for another day, drove to Pittsburgh and eventually drove home to Louisiana in a rented car. And I continued to talk to Mom for another 10 minutes until she saw a clip on the Today Show that showed smoke coming from the Pentagon.
That set off another chain of events that hit very close to home, literally as we lived only 40 miles outside DC at the time. My husband's best friend was a contractor at the Pentagon at the time. To make a long story short--Mark's contractor trailer adjacent to the Pentagon was literally flattened when the plane hit, but he and all of his guys made it out alive and to safety. The front end of his truck was 'melted' from the heat given off by the fire after impact. Mark was honored one year later at the Pentagon 9/11 ceremony.
Alan was off work for 2 days. I remember the eery quiet. We lived in the Dulles Airport flight path at the time. I don't think I ever noticed the noise of the planes until that week in September when no planes flew. I remember waking up every morning and turning on the news and praying to God that nothing else had happened.
I remember where I was when the Iranian hostages were released. I remember the horrified look on Ronald Reagan's face when the Space Shuttle exploded. My mother remember vividly the day Kennedy was shot. 9/11 sadly will live forever like these events.
Since I don't know how to add music...I'll post this link. This song is awesome.

Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
Y'all can stop looking--we found him! We've adopted him and brought him home to live out his days in total and complete chaos.
We weren't really in the 'market' for a dog--but last week our guinea pig, Mimi, died. As you can imagine--that was quite traumatic. We lost our beloved Black Lab, Maddie about 3 years ago. We always knew that someday, when the time was right we'd find another dog to love. Our 'only' criteria was that the dog needed to be Labrador or Golden Retriever Mix, not a puppy, and in need of rescue. In the wake of our recent loss I decided to see what was out there in our area. I logged onto PetFinder.com and and this was the first picture that popped up for our area:
We knew it was our dog. He's a gorgeous Lab mix, 4-5 years old, good with children and an owner surrender--no abuse suspected. Romeo (his previous owners named him) is an 84 pound gentle giant. He's pretty relaxed and seems not to mind that 5 children are clamoring after him.
Evan is especially taken with him. I've read some wonderful things about dogs and Autism so I'm hoping they will have a very special bond. If nothing else they can commiserate over the abundance of female in their midst.
My only concern is I think he's a dog food snob. He has no interest in his dry food. Sigh. Challenge #1 here I come.

September All You Magazine--GET IT!!
I picked up September's All You yesterday at WalMart. I like this magazine a lot -- it's very family oriented with lots of good do-able ideas, recipes and crafts. But, even better, it pays for itself--the magazine costs 2.49 at WalMart (which is the ONLY place it is sold, although you can subscribe). There are $94.50 worth of coupons in September's issue! I'm seriously considering a second copy.
Click here to see the coupons in SEPTEMBER'S ALL YOU.

I miss the Mail.
Really. I miss the mail. You know, the good old days when you'd run to the mailbox to see if your penpal had sent a letter, or if that cool thing you talked your mom into ordering off the Bazooka wrapper had come? {for the record, my mom never fell for any of that stuff....I was deprived.} Mail took on a whole new importance in college as my link to home, my bff, and my boyfriend.
Life is so different now. We shoot off emails and get frustrated if we don't get a response in a few hours. We never have to wait to 'see' our pictures--we just download. We text, we skype, we chat....mail is so....yesterday.
Walking to the mailbox now is so anti-climatic. Bills. Credit Card offers. Junk. Sigh.
Well if, like me, you are hoping to find something else in your mail box check out the FREE daily offers from ALL YOU magazine. They offer a free sample every.single.day. Most are simple fill in the blank forms to get a product sample sent to your home (today I found a sample of Rachel Ray's new dog food to order). Most will want an email address. I suggest setting up an email account specifically for this sort of thing so as not to clog up your home inbox. Afraid you missed something good? Never fear--you can click on a calender to see the offers for each day--and if the product is still available.
Here's hoping you find something good in your mailbox soon!

My Coke Rewards can be your Coke Rewards!
Because there is no available 12 step program for my Diet Coke addiction; I joined My Coke Rewards instead. When I think about how many years I didn't save Coke Rewards, I cringe. I've now been saving for a little less than a year. It's easy and they add up fast.
Think you shouldn't join because you really don't drink much Coke? Never fear--there are actually 13 products that carry Coke Rewards points--all the traditional Coke products plus Minute Maid, Powerade, DeSani Waters, Fresca, Barqs, Mr. Pibb and Fanta. Plus from time to time 'Bonus' points are offered--last year McDonald's Monopoly game featured Coke Rewards as a prize and Wendy's had a promotion this summer. I have collected almost 3,000 points in the last year--I didn't drink them all, I swear! Hubby brings them home from work (he collects them from the guys who would just toss 'em), friends at work will toss them in my mailbox, and I keep my eyes open (as in 'hey, don't throw that away!').
So, what are the rewards, just a bunch of Coke paraphernalia? No! That's the cool part--I've gotten free magazines, free downloads at Napster for my preteen, a free poster size collage print at Snapfish, a free photo book at Snapfish and a gift certificate for FTD--and I've only spent half my points. The Snapfish items made awesome Christmas gifts--grandparents love pictures! Options range from selected theme park and NASCAR tickets to kitchen accessories. Some prizes, like magazines, cost as little as 100 points.
Next time you see a Coke cap--pick it up. You can always send it to me.
